We have a restaurant here in Alabama called Top O' the River. My favorite part of the meal is the cornbread with pickled onions that they serve. In today's video, I show you how to recreate their pickled onions. We love to eat them with beans, peas, or hamburgers/hotdogs. They are just so good!

Does the sugar make the finished onions taste sweet (like sweet pickles) or does it just take away the "bite" of the onion? I ask because I do not like sweet pickles and prefer savory dill pickles and would not want to make this with the sugar if the final product was similar to sweet pickles. I'm leaning towards trying this without the sugar but thought I'd ask here first.
