I make this often just for me. I add onions to the pasta and cook them together, when pasta done, add onions regularly size diced tomatoes or diced petite tomatoes n one popcan size of tomatoe juice, tbsp bacon grease and or tbsp butter. Bring back to a boil for 2-3 minutes. Great with warm buttered crusty bread, Yummy

My Mother fixed this (macaroni & tomatoes) and stewed the tomatoes with bacon drippings and then added the macaroni. Really good with a few chopped onions in the tomatoes also.

My mother fixed this when I was a child and I crave it sometimes still yet. We do add onions to ours tho. Delish!

What i do to mine is i use 1 - 2 large cans of diced tomatoes ,salt pepper ,no butter ,but i use V - 8 juice stir in the well drained elbow pasta ,cover for a few minutes cooking on low the pasta will absorb most of the juice . taste for seasoning may add more V- 8 juice . I have eaten this for many years . My mother cooked it often . I love this dish !!!!!
